Managing Tenancies

A tenancy is the relationship between a tenant and a property. RentFig helps you create, renew, and track tenancy leases, monitor rent payments, and manage related documents.

Getting Started

  1. Create a tenancy — Click 'Create Tenancy' and select the property and tenant. Set the start date, rent amount, payment frequency (weekly, monthly, etc.), and any other terms.
  2. Set rent details — Specify the rent amount, when rent is due, and payment method. RentFig will track payments and alert you to overdue amounts.
  3. Record deposit information — Capture the security deposit amount and select a protection scheme (DPS, TDS, or mydeposits) if required.
  4. Generate tenancy documents — Use the Document Creator to produce a Tenancy Confirmation Letter, Prescribed Information, Section 8 Notice, and other standard documents.
  5. Track payment history — Log rent payments via the Rent Chaser section. RentFig records each payment against the tenancy and updates outstanding balances automatically.
  6. Renew or end a tenancy — When a tenancy approaches its end date, you can renew it or mark it as ended. This preserves the history for future reference.

Common Questions

How do I record a rent payment?

Go to Rent Chaser, find the relevant debt record, and click 'Record Payment'. Enter the date and amount received. RentFig updates the outstanding balance automatically.

Can I create a tenancy retroactively?

Yes, you can backdate tenancies. Simply set the start date to a past date and log historical payments as needed.

What happens if a tenancy ends before the next rent payment?

You can mark the tenancy as ended on any date. RentFig will track the final payment and calculate any pro-rata rent if needed.
